Job role / Scope & General Purpose

The Accounting Manager will lead and oversee the full spectrum of the company's financial operations, including accounting, reporting, and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for guiding the accounting team, establishing and maintaining robust financial procedures aligned with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements. The Accounting Manager will also provide strategic financial insights to support executive decision making, ensure transparency, and drive operational efficiency across the organization.

Detailed description of MAIN tasks and KEY responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives.
  • Manage the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in line with the Unified Accounting System and International Standards (IFRS and IAS).
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all financial information to the CEO and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, report on variances, and perform financial modelling.
  • Manage the company's cash flow and liquidity, ensuring adequate funding for operational needs.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Develop and manage the company's financial systems and internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate risk.
  • Manage the completion of annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Monitor and confirm the company's financial condition by leading the periodic closing cycles.
  • Manage and oversee the company's payroll processing, align with personal income tax and social security rules.
  • Seek innovative ways to improve the finance and accounting functions and implement new software systems that ensure an effective digital finance solution.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Accounting team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional Accounting Certification (e.g. CMA, ACCA, CPA).

Skills

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Abilities to develop and nurture relationships across department.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to priorities, problem solving, and use initiative.
  • Ability to be challenged on analysis and work well under pressure.
  • Efficient and organised with great attention to detail.
  • Able to prioritise competing demands.
  • High proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Dynamic 365.
  • In depth knowledge of Iraqi corporate tax structures, social security regulations, and labour compliance requirements tailored to manufacturing and industrial entities.
  • Strong command of Anti Money Laundering (AML) regulations and financial monitoring, ensuring all industrial business activities and procurement processes adhere to Iraqi financial transparency standards.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years in accounting experience, with at least 3 years in managerial positions.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication in Kurdish, English and Arabic is preferable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and advanced accounting and ERP software.
  • Strong knowledge of unified Accounting System and tax lows.
  • Willingness to travel extensively both domestically (across all Iraqi governorates), and internationally to support company objectives.
