Job role
The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and optimizing the organization’s network infrastructure across datacenters, corporate offices and POPs. This role ensures that the network operates with the highest levels of availability, scalability, and security to support mission-critical ISP operations and enterprise services.
Detailed description of MAIN tasks and KEY responsibilities
- Design and deploy scalable network architectures supporting core, distribution, and access layers.
- Configure and manage routing, switching, and load-balancing solutions across multi-site environments.
- Implement and maintain network segmentation, QoS, VPN, VLAN, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.).
- Conduct capacity planning, traffic analysis, and performance optimization to ensure network reliability and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot complex network incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
- Integrate and support voice (FreePBX), video, and data services within the network environment.
- Collaborate with systems, database, and application teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Mentor junior network engineers and provide technical leadership during projects and incidents.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams, device configurations, and operational procedures.
- Support the rollout of new services, technologies (IPv6, SD-WAN, EVPN), and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
Education & Work Experience (Preferred background)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Networks, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering
- Proven track record in designing and operating enterprise or ISP-grade networks with high availability and security requirements.
- Experience working in a multi-vendor environment (Cisco, Edgecore, Fortinet, etc.) and integrating with virtualization platforms (VMware).
Skills/Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of Layer 2/3 protocols, network design principles, and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Familiarity with monitoring and automation tools (PRTG, Zabbix, Ansible, etc.).
- Experience with high-availability architectures, failover mechanisms, and redundancy planning.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- Strong documentation, planning, and project management abilities.
Job requirements
- Ability to design and implement large-scale network infrastructure projects from concept to production.
- Capability to lead network operations, coordinate with multiple technical teams, and manage escalations.
- Willingness to participate in 24/7 on-call rotations and respond to critical network incidents.
- Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements in ISP or enterprise environments.
- Effective communication skills to interface with vendors, management, and cross-functional teams.
- Continuous learning mindset and ability to adapt to emerging network technologies and architectures.
